Overview
Breast reduction decreases the size and weight of the breasts, improving proportion with the rest of the body and relieving physical discomfort such as back, neck, and shoulder pain. Beyond the aesthetic benefit, it often has an important functional component. Dr. Hermes repositions the tissue and the areola to achieve a firmer, higher, more harmonious shape.
Dr. Hermes's approach
Dr. Hermes removes excess glandular tissue and skin, repositions the areola to a natural height, and reshapes the breast for a firm, proportionate form. Incisions are planned to reduce their visibility and are closed in layers to favor optimal healing. As a surgeon who also understands clinical care, he prioritizes both functional relief and a natural aesthetic result, caring for you at every stage.
Risks and honesty
Like all surgery, risks exist: temporary or permanent changes in nipple sensation, asymmetry, scars more visible than expected, healing problems, or infection. The ability to breastfeed may be affected depending on the technique and the case. Dr. Hermes follows strict protocols to reduce these risks, but it's important to understand that no surgery is free of them and that results vary.
Are you a good candidate?
It's suitable if you have large breasts causing back, neck, or shoulder pain, skin irritation, or limits on physical activity. Also if you're seeking a more balanced proportion. Good overall health, not smoking, and realistic expectations about scarring are ideal. Dr. Hermes assesses your case comprehensively in consultation.

Ready to take the first step?Recovery, step by step
- 01
First days (0-3)
Moderate discomfort controlled with medication. You'll wear dressings or a surgical bra and rest, avoiding lifting your arms above your shoulders. Swelling is typical of this stage. Many patients already notice relief from the weight.
- 02
Weeks 1-2
Swelling begins to subside and you can resume light tasks at home. You continue with the supportive bra and avoid exertion. Exercise and lifting restrictions remain in place.
- 03
Weeks 3-6
Swelling decreases noticeably and the shape becomes more apparent. Return to low-impact activities, still avoiding heavy lifting and contact exercise. Scars are pink and maturing.
- 04
Months 2-3 and beyond
Visible, evolving result, with sustained improvement in physical discomfort. Progressive return to full exercise. Scars fade gradually over 12-18 months with good care and sun protection.
Frequently asked
Many patients notice significant relief from back, neck, and shoulder pain once the weight they carried is reduced. Skin irritation and comfort during exercise often improve too. The response varies from person to person, but the functional benefit is often one of the most valued.
It depends on the technique used and your anatomy. Some patients retain the ability to breastfeed and others may find it reduced, since glandular tissue is removed. If future breastfeeding is important to you, discuss it with Dr. Hermes in consultation so it can be considered in planning.
Breast reduction leaves scars, usually around the areola and running vertically, and in some cases also in the fold. Dr. Hermes plans them to be as discreet as possible and closes them with careful technique. Over time they lighten and flatten, though results vary from person to person.
